JAZOVKA

Seeing my childhood friends, whose fathers were alive in 1945 after the war, enjoying their freedom and lives, forced me, an eight-year-old, to ask my mother where my father was.   My Mother often answered my frequent questions by saying, "Oh my son, don't break my already broken heart even more!"  One day I asked my mother the same old question again.  She relented and answered that the reason why she was alone with no help from anyone or anything was that in 1942 the Partisans took my father away and threw him into a mass grave in Sošice, Žumberak, near the Croatian-Slovenian border, because he refused to join their army.
